Begin the Accreditation Process

Apply for Accreditation

NACCUA uses a structured application process designed to establish eligibility, define the requested accreditation scope, organize institutional evidence, and support an efficient substantive review.

Before you apply

Start with eligibility and scope.

Before entering the formal accreditation process, an institution should determine whether it falls within NACCUA’s accreditation scope and satisfies the applicable eligibility requirements.

Eligibility is a threshold determination. It allows an institution to proceed into accreditation review; it does not itself establish conformity with the Accreditation Standards or guarantee an accreditation decision.

Institutions with unusual structures, multiple educational levels, complex delivery arrangements, or uncertainty about the appropriate accreditation pathway should contact NACCUA before submitting materials.

Choose the correct pathway

Provisional or Full Accreditation.

Provisional Accreditation

Available to qualifying new institutions that have not yet completed the operating history required for Full Accreditation. The institution must demonstrate sufficient readiness, systems, staffing, educational capacity, resources, and student protections for NACCUA to make a reliable accreditation judgment.

Full Accreditation

Available only after an institution has completed at least 12 months of actual operation and can provide sufficient operating evidence to demonstrate conformity with applicable NACCUA requirements. Completion of 12 months does not automatically create Full Accreditation; an affirmative accreditation decision is required.

Application sequence

The normal accreditation process.

The process is organized to establish eligibility, build a reliable institutional record, verify material representations, and support an independent accreditation decision.

01

Eligibility Review

Confirm that the institution, educational activities, legal authority, operating stage, and requested accreditation scope are eligible for review.

02

Application

Submit institutional identity, ownership and control, governance, legal authority, educational scope, locations, delivery methods, leadership, and required declarations.

03

Institutional Accreditation Report

Address the applicable accreditation standards and identify the evidence supporting institutional conformity.

04

Evidence and Exhibits

Provide an organized evidence index and supporting records sufficient for substantive review.

05

Completeness and Readiness

NACCUA determines whether the submission is sufficiently complete and review-ready to proceed into substantive evaluation.

06

Accreditation Review

Qualified reviewers evaluate the application, institutional report, evidence, and other relevant information against published requirements.

07

Site Review and Institutional Response

NACCUA conducts required verification and the institution responds to material questions, findings, or requests for additional evidence.

08

Accreditation Decision

The completed record is presented to the authorized accreditation decision body for an official outcome.

Application package

What the institution prepares.

The application package is designed to organize the institutional record without requiring duplicate documentation merely for volume.

Accreditation Application

Institutional identity, legal status, ownership and control, governance, principal contacts, educational scope, operating history, locations, delivery methods, authorizations, and required certifications.

Institutional Accreditation Report

The institution’s standards-by-standards explanation of how it conforms to applicable NACCUA requirements, with specific evidence references and disclosure of material gaps.

Evidence Index and Exhibits

An organized set of institutional records, policies, data, systems information, and other evidence cited in the Institutional Accreditation Report.

Program and Institutional Data

Program inventory, credential levels, delivery methods, enrollment or intended enrollment, staffing, outcomes, resources, financial information, and other data appropriate to the institution and requested scope.

Attestations and Disclosures

Accuracy certification, ownership and control information, authorization status, material legal or regulatory matters, and permission for NACCUA to verify representations.

Supplemental Requirements

Additional evidence may apply to primary or secondary schools, higher education, graduate or doctoral education, distance or online education, or another defined accreditation scope.

Evidence expectations

Use real institutional evidence whenever it exists.

Evidence should make the institution’s accreditation case understandable and verifiable. NACCUA does not require documentation simply to create volume.

Current

Evidence should reflect present operations unless historical material is needed to establish a required period, trend, or institutional history.

Relevant

Evidence should relate directly to an eligibility requirement, accreditation standard, requested scope, or material decision issue.

Authentic

Submitted records must be genuine institutional records. NACCUA may verify source, authorship, dates, systems records, or other material facts.

Representative

Representative samples may be used where full populations are unnecessary, subject to additional sampling when needed.

Traceable

The Institutional Accreditation Report and evidence index should make the evidence supporting each material claim reasonably easy to locate.

Proportionate

NACCUA does not require excessive duplicate documentation when one reliable record can support multiple related requirements.

Applicants are responsible for demonstrating eligibility and conformity. NACCUA evaluates and verifies the institutional record; it does not build the institution’s accreditation case for it.

New institutions

Provisional applicants are not expected to invent operating history.

Where actual operating evidence does not yet exist, a Provisional Accreditation applicant may demonstrate readiness through implemented policies, completed curricula, staffing and resource evidence, financial capacity, systems demonstrations, sample records or forms, and other objective evidence showing that the institution is prepared to operate in conformity with applicable requirements.

When actual operations have begun, actual records should be provided in place of projections or samples whenever reasonably available.

Operating institutions

Full Accreditation requires operating evidence.

An institution seeking Full Accreditation must provide evidence from at least 12 months of actual operation sufficient to show that its systems work in practice.

NACCUA expects actual evidence of educational delivery, student administration, staffing, financial operation, student services, records management, institutional effectiveness, and other applicable functions rather than relying primarily on plans or templates.

Completeness and readiness

Administrative completeness is not accreditation.

Before substantive evaluation begins, NACCUA reviews the submission to determine whether it is sufficiently complete and organized for meaningful review.

A limited deficiency may be corrected through supplementation. A material eligibility problem or a submission that is not capable of substantive review may be returned, deferred, or discontinued under applicable rules.

Process timing

A prepared application can move efficiently.

NACCUA designs the initial accreditation process around an internal objective of approximately six to eight months from a complete, review-ready application to an accreditation decision.

The timeline is an objective, not a guarantee. Incomplete submissions, delayed responses, corrective action, complex scope, additional verification, or other material issues may extend the process.
